Mobile Technologies and Libraries
By: Emily Medina
Mobile devices become more and more abundant every day, and with the pandemic more people are taking online classes than ever. Due to this people require access to the internet as well as a place to do work, and no place is better to provide this than a library. Whether it is charging stations, access to high-speed internet, or the ability to check out power banks there are many things libraries can do to make the use of mobile technology easier. It is also just as important for a library to promote that they are mobile technology friendly. Putting up signs and utilizing QR codes are only two of the most popular ways to promote mobile technology accessibility. It is also beneficial if libraries catalogs are accessible on mobile devices so that patrons can easily look up the call number of books to help them find it in the library. Mobile technology is not going anywhere and it is vital that libraries catch up, and stay caught up, so that they remain a necessary part of information technology.
